03 Hats and apparel

Hat and apparel designs, ready to make.

We design side patches, front logos and whole caps, and the tee, jacket or tote that goes with them. Each is drawn to the factory's limits and previewed as thread or ink before anything is made, with every color called by number. Your factory accepts the file on the first pass, and the sample comes back looking like the drawing.

Two days. A scope and a number.

The work

What it looks like.

All work
Who this is for
  • I have the idea in my head, a screenshot, and no file the factory will take.
  • My sample came back and the small letters filled in, the gold went orange, and I paid for it.
  • Our brand has a New Era order to place and we need the whole cap drawn, front to underside, before the deadline.

Not for you if you want your existing logo printed on a plain cap or tee. Any online upload page does that for the price of the garment, and it will look like it.

What you get

Everything the factory asks for.

  1. Final artwork as a vector file, the format a factory needs to stitch or print it.
  2. A preview in thread or ink before anything is made.
  3. Every color called out by number, so gold comes back gold.
  4. Stitch count, patch size or print size, written down.
  5. The spec sheet, the order form the factory works from, filled in and ready to send.
  6. 2 rounds of changes.
The sample line

The house mark, taken off caps and put on everything else. A nylon varsity, denim in two washes, a green military jacket, a flannel and the tote, each carrying the crown and bird embroidered across the back. Every garment got its own embroidery file and its own color calls, and the first samples came back looking like the drawing.

How it works
  1. Day 1You send the idea, what it goes on, and any reference you have, even a napkin. If you already have a factory and a quantity, send those too.
  2. Day 2You get a scope and a number.
  3. Week 1You see the art and the preview on your phone at real size, the side patch at its real 2 inches or the back print at its real width, so you judge it the way a customer will.
  4. Week 2You get the vector file, the preview and the spec sheet, and the factory gets a file it accepts. When the sample comes back, send a photo and we check it against the drawing.
Questions

Before you ask.

Do you only do hats?

No. The same drawing goes on a tee, a denim or nylon jacket, a flannel, a hoodie or a tote. Embroidery, screen print and direct to garment, which is ink printed straight onto the fabric, each want the file drawn a different way. We draw for the one you are actually using, and we say which one suits the art before you commit.

Which factories will take your file?

Any of them. Caps are drawn to New Era's limits, which are the tightest, so the same file works at Trimworld, NYES, Stahls and Richardson. Apparel goes out the same way, to whichever printer or embroiderer you use. If your factory has its own sheet, we fill in theirs.

Can you do the whole cap?

Yes. Crown, visor, undervisor, which is the underside of the brim, sweatband tag, every panel, drawn as one hat so nothing on it fights. You get the front, the side, the back and the underside on one page.

I already have a logo. Is that enough?

Usually not. Logos are drawn for screens, and the fine lines fill in when they shrink to thread. We redraw it so it reads at 2 inches on a side patch or across a back, and you keep the original for everything else.

How many colors can I use?

It depends on the factory and on how many thread colors or screens the job allows. We tell you before you fall in love with the idea, and we tell you which color to drop if one has to go. Metallic thread has its own limit, and we say that up front too.

Ready when you are.
